The Rat Trap, Park Theatre, Finsbury
On 14th March, after celebrating our Founder Barbara Longford’s birthday at a lunch at Osteria Tufo, 20 members of the Society went to see Noël Coward’s The Rat Trap. Written when he was only 18, the play shows remarkable acuity and sensitivity in its tracing the fortunes of a couple of newly-wed writers whose marriage proves to be anything but the blessing on their creative talents they had imagined it would be. The fall-out, powerfully conveyed in this intimate and lively production, anticipates the verbal wars of attrition experienced by ill-matched couples in so many of his later plays.
